Responsible for the overall supervision of staff and campers in a particular area of camp with the aim of providing a healthy, safe, and fun camp environment. Beber Camp supervisors exhibit strong leadership skills and are creative in planning and implementing programs and activities for campers. Area Directors live out of bunk, in a dorm-style setting, with other supervisors. Qualifications:

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must submit a health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work.
• Previous experience working with children is preferred.
• Previous experience working in a specific area is preferred. (Challenge Course, Waterfront, Art, etc.)

Essential Job Functions:

• Direct, supervise, and organize specialists and counselors working in the specific area.
  • Develop and implement program activities for campers that are consistent with the mission of Beber Camp and teach staff how to help implement such programs.
    • Determine which specific activities will run for each hobby program and cabin activity and be prepared with materials to run multiple activities simultaneously.
    • Model pride and ownership, Love of Israel, Culture of Gratitude, Safety, and fun through creative activities in the area.
  • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Be a positive role model and resource for staff. Celebrate successes.
  • Ensure proper supervision of area staff specialists at all times.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and return of all equipment in your area.
  • Meet with the programming team daily.
  • Support the full-time team, leadership team, and staff with programs, decisions, and responsibilities.
• Direct, supervise, and organize campers during activities alongside counselors.
  • Apply youth development principles in working with campers through appropriate communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Ensure proper supervision of campers at all times in coordination with area specialists and counselors.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Be alert to campers’ and staff needs, assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with the camp health center staff and/or Camp Director when appropriate.
  • Ensure, at all times, the confidentiality of campers’ personal or health information, unless otherwise directed by the Camp Medical Staff, Assistant Directors, or Camp Director.
  • Promote emotional safety for campers and staff by maintaining an environment of encouragement and respect. Celebrate successes.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance; report necessary repairs promptly to the Camp Director or Program Leader.
  • Actively participate in and take leadership roles in other program areas as needed around camp including camping trips, all camp activities, evening programs, athletics, arts and crafts, fine arts, aquatics, and general programming as directed.
  • Work closely with the programming team and your direct supervisor.
  • Set a good example for campers, staff, and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, daily schedule, and sportsmanship.

Physical Demands:

• The majority of on-the-job time is spent in the following physical activities, mostly outdoors: standing, walking, using hands and legs, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including supplies and equipment.
• Visual ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
• Ability to speak clearly with staff on the walkie-talkie regarding emergencies or anything else.
