Division Leader
Responsible for supervising a camper age group, including developing and coordinating activities, themes, and schedules for the division while coaching Counselors through camper behavior challenges. Division Leaders work closely with Debbie, our Community Care Director, and Counselors to coordinate divisional programming and activities. Minimum Requirements:
- Previous leadership experience
- Previous overnight camp counselor experience
Basic Overview:
- Report to Director or Assistant Director
- Manage a division consisting of:
- up to 120 campers
- up to 35 counselors
- Supervise a Head Counselor
- Plan and run training sessions for staff
- Supervise and support your counselors and campers
- Communicate with camper parents
- Develop agendas and run staff meetings
- Plan and lead divisional overnight camping trips and day trips for campers and staff
- Supervise staff once/week during Shomer
Detailed Overview:
- Supervise counselors
- Support them
- Check-in with each counselor several times daily
- Problem solve. provide assistance and suggestions for your counselors
- Provide feedback both positive and constructive
- Write and present evaluations to your counselors once per session
- Distribute rewards when possible
- Correct inappropriate behavior
- Dispense written warnings when necessary
- Support your campers
- Check-in with them as often as possible
- Facilitate the process of helping campers enjoy a fun and safe experience
- Learn all of their names
- Manage camper behavior problems that are too difficult or inappropriate for your counselors to handle on their own
- Communicate with camper parents
- Return phone calls within 12 hours in response to their concerns
- As a proactive measure or to gather info for use in handling a difficult camper situation
- Develop agendas and run meetings for your counselors
- Plan and lead divisional overnight camping trips and day trips for campers and staff in your division, including:
- Develop itinerary
- Develop programming
- Dispense medication
- Drive a van or truck
- Supervise staff during Shomer (Beber’s system for watching campers during periods when staff have time off) as assigned
- Develop, plan and run Divisional Programs together with the Head Counselor
