Camp Counselors have a direct impact on the campers’ experiences each and every day! Along with your Co-Counselor, you will be responsible for your own group of campers, leading activities and building relationships within your group. Great Counselors are patient and love having fun and leading games with children in their assigned age group. Purpose:

Counselors are responsible for the overall supervision and organization of campers with the aim of providing a healthy, safe, and fun camp environment. Beber Camp counselors exhibit strong leadership skills and are creative in planning and implementing programs and activities for campers. Cabin counselors live in a bunk with a group of 12-16 of campers and other co-cabin counselors.

Salary: Competitive summer salary! The minimum starting salary is $2,400.00 for ten weeks. Room and board included

Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)

• Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate.
• Must submit a health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work.
• Previous experience working with children is preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

Direct, supervise, and organize a group of campers in the cabin, during activities, and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.

• Apply youth development principles in working with campers through appropriate communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
• Ensure proper supervision of campers at all times in coordination with co-counselors, including when residing in cabins with two or three other staff members and campers.
• Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.

Develop and implement program activities for campers that are consistent with the mission of Beber Camp.

• Responsible for leading and assisting with teaching activities inside and outside the cabin.
• Actively participate and take leadership roles in all program areas as assigned.
• Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
• Participate in program areas such as waterfront, Challenge Course, camping trips (including on and off-site in tents), all camp activities, evening programs, athletics, arts and crafts, fine arts, and general programming as directed.
• Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and return of all equipment in your group’s possession.

Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.

• Be alert to campers’ and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with the camp health center staff and/or camp director when appropriate.
• Tend to health, hygiene, and first aid care of your campers to your level of training.
• Ensure, at all times, the confidentiality of campers’ personal or health information, unless otherwise directed by the Camp Medical Staff, Assistant Directors, or Camp Director.
• Promote emotional safety for campers and staff by maintaining an environment of encouragement and respect.
• Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance; report necessary repairs promptly to the Camp Director or Program Leader.

Be a role model to campers and staff.

• Display a good, positive attitude and appropriate workplace behavior.
• Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
• Set a good example to campers, staff, and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, daily schedule, and sportsmanship.

• Over 2/3 percent of on the job time is spent in the following physical activities, mostly outdoors: standing, walking, using hands and legs, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
• Approximately 1/3 percent of on the job time is spent in the following physical activities: sitting.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds
