JDC has an exciting opportunity for a development generalist who can drive strategy and thrives on frontline fundraising. The Senior Development Officer, JDC Entwine will lead and manage Entwine's fundraising operations while serving as the primary frontline fundraiser for the department. This role combines strategic leadership, departmental management, and direct solicitation responsibilities to ensure Entwine meets its revenue targets and sustains its programmatic work. The Senior Development Officer will oversee all aspects of Entwine's resource development function, including strategy development, major gift cultivation and solicitation, team management, and coordination with JDC's broader Resource Development department.

What will you do as a Senior Development Officer?

Strategic Leadership and Management:

  • Develop and implement Entwine's comprehensive annual fundraising strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and revenue targets
  • Manage Entwine's overall revenue portfolio, tracking progress against annual goals and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Resource Development team, including direct supervision of Development Officer and Development Administrator
  • Lead department meetings, strategic planning sessions, and cross-departmental coordination efforts
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and senior leadership on organizational fundraising priorities and initiatives

Frontline Fundraising and Major Gift Development:

  • Serve as primary frontline fundraiser, conducting direct solicitation of major gifts from individual donors, foundations, and institutional funders
  • Cultivate and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, maintaining regular contact and stewardship activities
  • Conduct donor meetings, presentations, and solicitation conversations with high-level prospects
  • Develop and implement cultivation strategies for prospective major donors
  • Lead proposal development for significant funding opportunities

Donor Relations and Stewardship:

  • Design and implement comprehensive donor stewardship programs to maintain and increase giving levels
  • Ensure timely and meaningful recognition of all donors across giving levels
  • Coordinate donor engagement opportunities, including program experiences, briefings, and special events
  • Maintain detailed records of all donor interactions and preferences

Team Management and Development:

  • Directly supervise Development Officer and Development Administrator, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and goal-setting sessions with direct reports
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining oversight of all departmental activities
  • Foster collaborative team environment and ensure effective communication across the department

Organizational Coordination:

  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure accurate and compelling program information for fundraising materials
  • Work with marketing and communications teams to develop fundraising-focused content and materials

Other:

  • Oversee creation of compelling written materials including grant proposals, donor reports, case statements, and fundraising presentations
  • Staff select Entwine programs and donor engagement opportunities as needed
  • Represent Entwine at professional development conferences and networking events
  • Maintain current knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends in Jewish philanthropy
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by Executive Director
  • Be a JDC Entwine expert by maintaining comprehensive understanding of organizational goals, programming, and impact

What qualifications are required to be our Senior Development Officer?

  • 10-15 years of progressive fundraising experience with demonstrated success in major gift solicitation and portfolio management
  • Proven track record of securing gifts of $50,000+ from individual donors and foundations
  • Significant management experience, including direct supervision of professional staff and department leadership
  • Excellent strategic thinking and planning capabilities with ability to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including experience in grant writing and donor presentations
  • Strong relationship-building skills with ability to cultivate and maintain long-term donor relationships
  • High proficiency with fundraising CRMs, particularly Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar systems
  • Knowledge of Jewish philanthropic landscape and funding community strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience fundraising for Jewish organizations or international humanitarian organizations
  • Graduate degree and/or CFRE certification
  • Established network within Jewish philanthropic community
  • Experience with board relations and volunteer management
  • Knowledge of international development and global Jewish communities
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
  • Passion for humanitarian work and global Jewish service

Additional Details

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Location: Hybrid from the New York Tri-State Area preferred, in-office on Tuesdays and Thursdays; open to remote from Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington DC, for candidates with strong existing relationships within those communities.

What are the compensation and benefits for a Senior Development Officer?

This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $150,000-$160,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
