We’re seeking an Assistant Controller of Financial Reporting to join the Budget & Finance Team, who will play a key role in financial reporting, financial data analysis, and global consolidation to support the operations of JDC.

What will you do as an Assistant Controller of Financial Reporting?

  • Facilitate financial reporting functions, including the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and materials needed for Board of Directors’ meetings;
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, including revenue recognition and fund accounting;
  • Correspond with overseas staff and third parties to facilitate global consolidation;
  • Assist with preparation of IRS Forms 990;
  • Assist with audit requests, reconciliations, and supporting schedules;
  • Research accounting pronouncements and other regulatory guidance as it may relate to new and complex transactions or matters, as these may arise;
  • Complete special projects, as assigned.

What qualifications are required to be our Assistant Controller of Financial Reporting?

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting or auditing;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
  • Sound understanding of US GAAP, Consolidations, and Financial Reporting;
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel; proficiency with Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
  • Proficiency with modern ERP systems; technologically savvy;
  • Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills;
  • Ability to prioritize work to achieve tight deadlines in a complex environment;
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff and external parties in a professional and flexible manner.

Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • CPA preferred;
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred

Additional Details

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Location: Hybrid from New York, NY in office Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Reports to: Director of Financial Reporting
  • Job Function/Department: Budget & Finance

What are the compensation and benefits for an Assistant Controller of Financial Reporting?

This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $110K-$130K per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
