Long Island

The Development Director will manage AJC Long Island’s fundraising program, working with staff and leadership to ensure that AJC Long Island exceeds its annual revenue goals, including annual giving, an honoree dinner, and planned giving. This includes constituency development initiatives and solicitation of foundations and donor recognition society gifts. The successful candidate will join an AJC office that is on a steep growth trajectory with fantastic lay professional partnership. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of, and a strong commitment to, AJC’s mission and priorities, and is a genuine relationship-builder who is energized by our mission and able to communicate that commitment to prospects and supporters. The ideal candidate will also be an experienced, goal-oriented development professional with planning and management skills and have strong ties to the Long Island philanthropic community. The ideal candidate will also have a proven track record of fundraising success with significant experience in donor cultivation, gift solicitation, including major gifts, and stewardship. Being on a team of three, the individual will have an all hands-on deck mentality and be willing to assist in all aspects of the regions growth.

Primary Fundraising Responsibilities:

  • Manage an annual campaign that has grown at a fast pace, tripling in size since 2019.
  • Organize special donor events, including parlor meetings and intimate dinners.
  • Conduct solicitations at all donor recognition society levels in coordination with the Regional Director.
  • In coordination with Regional Director, plan leadership development programs for new AJC supporters, including parents of the Leaders for Tomorrow program.
  • Work closely with AJC Long Island lay leaders to identify and cultivate prospects.
  • Develop ambitious annual campaign goals and a plan for achieving them.
  • Market planned giving materials to supporters and coordinate follow up with national AJC planned giving office; identify and enroll planned giving prospects.
  • Manage the cultivation and solicitation of foundation and major gifts, in coordination with AJC’s National Development Department
  • Manage development-related events, including a major annual fundraising dinner. Coordinate event strategy, design and mailing of invitations, coordination of event logistics, management of vendor relations, organize and lead solicitation process, and other necessary activities.
  • Become proficient or demonstrate proficiency in Raisers Edge database. Input all donor related information and interactions.
  • Partner with team on communications to ensure effective marketing to donor community.
  • Coordinate with program staff to ensure donors are engaged and aware of AJC’s impact, and that programs support development goals.
  • Work collaboratively with AJC’s National Development Department, especially on cultivation and stewardship opportunities.
  • Participate in national training for AJC’s Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) facilitators and facilitate seven sessions with the AJC Long Island staff for high school students. Travel to Washington DC on annual leadership summit.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of general AJC Long Island programs and activities. Being on a small collaborative team, no job is too small, including event set-ups and take-downs, event logistics, doing all that is required to ensure successful programs and events start to finish.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Seven-plus years fundraising experience that includes major donor solicitation.
  • Flexible, creative, and strategic thinker able to develop new ways to engage potential and existing donors and to create new giving opportunities and programs.
  • Passion for AJC’s mission (including combating antisemitism at home and abroad, securing Israel’s place in the world, and securing democratic values).
  • Experienced in developing board members and increasing their level of participation in the fundraising process.
  • Strong organizational, project-management and time management skills; ability to manage data and develop, implement, and oversee a yearly campaign.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and practically, to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously, to work effectively under pressure, and to follow through on agreed upon initiatives.
  • A self-starter, willing to take initiative, with an entrepreneurial mindset, who can work independently or collaboratively with professional and lay leadership.
  • Availability for early morning, evening, and weekend meetings as needed.
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge (or is a proven quick learner) and Microsoft Office.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $145,000, depending on relevant experience.
