American Friends of Nishmat provides ongoing support and encouragement for advanced Torah learning for women and for Yoatzot Halacha (women advisors in Jewish law), both specialties of Nishmat, the Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study, on the lush Dr. Monique C. Katz Campus in Jerusalem. AFN also organizes scholar-in-residence programs for American Jewish communities and synagogues, featuring Nishmat scholars, especially Rabbanit Chana Henkin, Nishmat founder and dean; Yoetzet Halacha Atara Eis, Director, Nishmat’s Miriam Glaubach Center for Yoatzot Halacha in the U.S., and Yoetzet Halacha Rachelle Sprecher Fraenkel, Nishmat Senior Scholar. Through its Israeli Midrasha and Ma’ayan, which enroll veterans of Israel’s National Service and IDF, and its highly sought-after Shana Ba’aretz post-high school program, Nishmat creates a culturally diverse environment that encourages Torah scholarship, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth. Ma’ayan has launched over 400 ISR.
