ALEPH’s mission is to educate, train and ordain leaders, build communities of spiritual practice, and co-create transformational experiences that build a global movement to reveal God’s presence in the daily lives of all humanity. We seek to contribute to Jewish Renewal by supporting new creative efforts to draw upon the rich legacy of Jewish mystical/Hasidic traditions and the deep wisdom of Jewish life and practice. Position Summary:The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal and provides strategic direction, oversight, and support to ensure that the organization fulfills its mission. Board members contribute their expertise, resources, and networks to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the organization. Key Responsibilities:- Governance: Ensure that the organization adheres to its mission, bylaws, and all applicable laws.- Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and approval of the organization’s strategic plan and long-term goals.- Financial Oversight: Review and approve the annual budget, financial statements, and tax filings.- Fundraising: Actively participate in fundraising efforts (meaningful top 3 charitable contributions).- Advocacy: Promote the organization’s mission and programs.- Ambassador: Serve as an active ambassador, identifying and securing resources and partnerships.- Board Development: Participate in recruitment and orientation of Board members. Meetings:The Board of Directors meets six times per year — January, March, May, July, September, and November. Four meetings are online via Zoom (approx. two hours). Two meetings (January and July) are in-person (approx. two full days). Board Committees typically meet for 60–90 minutes on Zoom, usually in the months when the Board does not meet. Standing Committees include Sustainability (Development), Finance, Nominating & Governance, Personnel, and Alliance Building (Communities, Programs & Partnerships). Qualifications:- Proven leadership experience in areas such as nonprofit management, financial management, strategic planning, fundraising/development, marketing/communications, human resources, legal and regulatory compliance, community engagement (marketing/communications, legal, HR, and fundraising especially desirable).- Commitment to diversity and inclusion; individuals from all backgrounds, ages, and geographies encouraged to apply.- Previous exposure to nonprofit governance and/or organizational management is desirable.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.- Passion for ALEPH’s mission and meaningful familiarity with the Jewish Renewal movement or adjacent communities.- Ability to commit time and resources to board activities. Commitments:- Attend both in-person board meetings and at least 75% of online board meetings.- Join at least one board committee and attend at least 75% of its online meetings.- Make reasonable efforts to participate in ad-hoc meetings as needed.- Make annual time and financial commitments that reflect ALEPH as a significant nonprofit affiliation.
