Position Summary
AAkiba-Schechter Jewish Day School seeks an outstanding Hebrew Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. We seek an intelligent, thoughtful, and passionate educator who loves children and has classroom experience teaching Hebrew language using a progressive approach. The ideal candidate will be expected to inspire and engage our students and work collaboratively with both our Judaic and General Studies staff.
At Akiba-Schechter, we teach children, not subjects. Our teachers partner with colleagues to develop strategies to reach and stretch every student including gifted and diverse learners. We focus on implementing creative and innovative ideas that foster intellectual, spiritual, and social growth in our students. Project-based learning and assessments are central to our philosophy.

Our mission at is to provide an excellent secular and Judaic education in Hyde Park to a diverse community of Jewish children from all over Chicagoland. Children study all aspects of our curriculum together in multi-aged classes. General duties include:
- Develop positive relationships with all students
- Plan and facilitate Hebrew language classes
- Differentiate instruction as needed
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure individual students’ needs are met
- Partner with colleagues to plan and facilitate interdisciplinary units and classes
- Supervise students as needed in advisory, lunch, recess, hallways, etc.
- Develop and promote proactive and positive communications with parents
- Sponsor and/or supervise special interest student clubs as needed
- Embrace the school values and support efforts to promote Akiba-Schechter
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of teaching experience; Master’s degree preferred
- Fluency in Hebrew
- Use of authentic materials
- Ability to implement varied approaches to teaching language
- Belief in the ability of all students to learn and succeed
- Experience developing healthy, supportive relationships with students
- Positive energy and can-do attitude
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Comfort and confidence with technology skills
- Flexibility and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Hours & Vacation:
- All Federal and Jewish holidays observed by the school
- Two week Winter break in December/January; 1.5 to 2 week Spring break during Passover
- Up to eight days off during the school year
This is a full or part time, in-person position with a salary commensurate with experience, and with benefits.
