PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Managing Editor leads ADL’s Content Studio and is responsible for shaping a clear, consistent, and compelling voice across all content. This role ensures that ADL’s work—spanning research, advocacy, and education—is translated into storytelling that is credible, emotionally resonant, and accessible to a broad audience. The Managing Editor brings a strong editorial background and proven leadership experience, guiding a team while partnering across departments to unify messaging, strengthen storytelling, and elevate how ADL shows up across web, newsletters, video, and emerging platforms. Grounded in SEO and AEO best practices, this role ensures that ADL’s content is not only powerful, but also discoverable and impactful.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve on a clear, consistent editorial voice across marketing, web, newsletters, and content from ADL experts in alignment with organizational messaging standards;
  • Strengthen storytelling to ensure content is compelling, emotionally resonant, and aligned with ADL’s mission and values;
  • Translate complex issues into accessible, engaging narratives for our audiences.
  • Lead and manage the Content Studio team;
  • Partner cross-functionally to develop cohesive, aligned content across multiple formats, including web, newsletters, and video;
  • Regularly vet and update content on the web;
  • Collaborate with Communications as a content-producing partner to maintain consistency across messaging and amplification;
  • Own and manage the enterprise content calendar, ensuring strong sequencing and coordination of key moments;
  • Lead SEO and AEO strategy to ensure content is optimized for search and AI-driven discovery;
  • Use performance insights and analytics to continuously refine storytelling and content effectiveness;
  • Ensure content reflects clarity, credibility, and thoughtful, balanced framing.

Skills:

  • Exceptional storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex topics into compelling content;
  • Deep understanding of SEO, AEO and AI-driven content discovery;
  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaborating with multiple stakeholders;
  • Strong judgment and ability to handle sensitive or nuanced topics with care;
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate brings extensive leadership experience in editorial, journalism, or content strategy, with a proven ability to shape brand voice, tone, and narrative.
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams is required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $140,000 to $150,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, NY. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
