PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Prospect Research Specialist is a key support role in ADL’s national fundraising team, reporting to ADL’s Director, Research and Prospect Management. An organized, communicative and detail-oriented collaborator, the Prospect Research Specialist assists in identifying and ranking existing and new donors/prospects, collecting, compiling, analyzing, and verifying biographical and financial information, and ensuring ADL’s donor database (Salesforce) is updated with current and clean prospect information. This role will work closely with the Director, Research and Prospect Management to build a prospect pipeline for CSC and all four divisions.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Provide research to drive cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Support frontline fundraisers to identify, qualify and track major gift prospects.
  • Conduct regular wealth screenings, validate wealth screening data, and update donor records as needed.
  • Update donor and prospect records adding new donor data, linking records to appropriate constituents, scrubbing old/outdated data, and creating new/additional records as needed.
  • Provide routine data quality control reviews, ensuring that spelling of names, contact information, record type, record status, gift source, related records, and other donor-related information in the database are correct and up-to-date.
  • Synthesize information into insightful and accurate research profiles.
  • Conduct in-depth financial and biographical research on constituents.
  • Serve on working groups as required.
  • Adhere to ethical and confidentiality guidelines of ADL and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Strong project management, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Some knowledge of techniques and methodologies of donor and prospect research using both online and traditional print sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a solutions-focused mindset, and the ability to determine course of action.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • A problem-solving focus, an astute attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a virtual environment with off-site colleagues.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM systems and in quickly learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Experience in the use of online research tools such as Wealth Engine, RelSci, iWave, Nexis for Development Professionals, Foundation Directory Online, etc. along with numerous other online and print tools and publications a plus.

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has several years of experience in prospect research, or comparable field.
  • Previous work that includes identifying and qualifying prospects, deep online research and analyzing financial information a plus.
  • Previous work in a national organization with multiple satellite offices a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

Work Environment:

  • ADL is a hybrid environment, though this role will be performed remotely.

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $52,000 to $76,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, NY. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
