Adamah NY community impact hubs, has the largest mandate and exponential potential within Adamah, driving transformative Jewish environmental education, youth empowerment, and climate action across New York City, Long Island, and Westchester (henceforth: NY Area). By both scaling Adamah’s national programs and creating initiatives uniquely tailored to the NY Jewish community, Adamah NY fosters deep connections between people and planet.

Job Summary:

Adamah NY is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Climate Action Coordinator to join the NY team, lead and grow climate initiatives across Jewish institutions throughout in the NY area. This is a public-facing, strategic, and fast-paced role ideal for a relationship-builder who is passionate about Jewish community engagement and climate action.

The Climate Action Coordinator will play a central role in developing and implementing a range of climate-focused programs, including educational workshops and webinars, localized resource guides, and other strategic initiatives. They will cultivate and maintain partnerships with Jewish community institutions throughout New York, supporting them in identifying, assessing, and carrying out climate solutions aimed at reducing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. A key responsibility of the role is guiding members of the Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition in the creation, execution, evaluation, and annual sharing of their organizational Climate Action Plans. Moreover, the Coordinator will manage and oversee the Adamah NY Climate Action Fund including reviewing applications, working with grantees, coordinating the Climate Action Fund Allocations and all the administrative aspects of the Fund. The coordinator will also connect institutions with broader engagement opportunities offered by Adamah NY to ensure holistic and sustained participation.

Climate Action Leadership (75%)

Coalition Growth & Support

  • Recruit Jewish community organizations across the NY area to join the Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition.
  • Support the development, implementation, and annual reporting of Adamah NY Coalition members’ organizational Climate Action Plans.

Climate Action Fund Management

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all Adamah NY Climate Action Fund aspects including:
  • Promotion of the Fund (advertising, recruitment, application support, presenting)
  • Administration (materials preparation, reporting, invoicing)
  • Coordination of lay leaders' involvement convening and supporting the Climate Action Fund Allocation Committee.

Program Development & Implementation

  • Design and deliver local programming including learning sessions, resource guides, and strategic workshops on climate solutions (e.g., electrification, clean energy, energy efficiency, nature-based solutions).
  • Coordinate local partnerships with NYC-based climate and sustainability experts, government programs, nonprofits, and private sector leaders to support members’ decarbonization goals, to advance the Hub’s visibility, relevance and impact.

Community Engagement & Facilitation

  • Build and manage a vibrant community of practice for New York-based Coalition members.
  • Foster meaningful integration between Coalition work and other Adamah NY offerings by connecting members to additional Hub programs.

Community Program Support (15%)

  • Support Adamah NY’s broader mission and programs including events, retreats, and educational offerings.
  • Help advance the Hub’s goals beyond the climate portfolio by engaging diverse community members and stakeholders.

Administration (10%)

  • Participate in internal meetings, including:
    • Weekly check-ins with the Adamah NY Director
    • Weekly Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition team virtual meeting
    • Weekly Adamah NY team meetings
    • Monthly national Adamah staff meetings
  • Maintain accurate records and progress tracking using shared data systems.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

Helpful prior skills and experience include:

  • Experience working in the climate/energy/environmental space.
  • Understanding of Climate Change and Climate Justice topics a must.
  • Understanding of the Jewish community, a plus.
  • Must possess a solid work ethic with strong organizational and time-management skills, excellent attention to detail, professional verbal, and written communication skills in English, as well as provide excellent customer service.
  • Strong administration and Microsoft suite skills, Salesforce experience or the willingness to learn.
  • Ability to multitask and hold multiple projects at once. Strong attention to detail as well as ability to hold a big-picture view.
  • Creative and self-starter, ability to self-motivate and work on solo projects as needed.

General:

  • Attend and contribute to regular Adamah NY team meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, and quarterly divisional meetings.
  • Collaborate with team members to support Adamah NY outreach, communications, and community building in the region.
  • While this role will focus on Climate Action, other responsibilities may be delegated and expanded as needed to support our interdisciplinary and collaborative team. Responsibilities could include but are not limited to: Supporting set up for adjacent Adamah NY programming, supporting local engagement with the Jewish Youth Climate Movement or Adamah on Campus, marketing and communications support, and development and fundraising support.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor and ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

This is an exempt position with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, with occasional travel and weekend work required. The role is designed to be hybrid, with a minimum of 1-2 days per week in the NY office. Candidates must be based in the metro New York area and able to commute to and from NYC. 90 Day Check In: Ninety days from date of employment date, there will be a check in between you and your supervisor. Annually thereafter.
