INTRODUCTION:Temple Emanuel of South Hills is seeking to grow our staff to strengthen existing programs and to create new opportunities for our community. Attendance is expected during all programming you oversee unless delegated to a suitable and qualified fellow staff member or volunteer as well as at regular meetings with staff and irregular meetings with volunteers. Travel is required for off-site meetings. It is understood that a significant amount of work outside regular office hours may be required.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:(These examples represent the essential functions of the position. They are not, however, inclusive of all the duties the position may perform.)

1.Responsibility for the creation and development of programs to engage with Jewish life andstrengthen the sense of community among Temple members, including:

A.Programming tied to holiday and calendric observances throughout the Jewish year.

B.Social programming to engage members in and across demographic cohorts.

C.Developing publicity and recruiting congregants to engage in these opportunities.

  1. Responsibility for the creation and development of opportunities for Temple members to engage in the community with one another, including:

A.Building partnerships that lead to volunteer opportunities with community organizations that share Temple’s Reform Jewish values and vision for a better world;

B.Creating projects at Temple and in the greater community that allow Temple members to live their values through the works of their hands;

C.Developing publicity and recruiting congregants to engage in these opportunities;

D.Developing and managing the annual budget, including reporting expenses and ensuring timely reimbursements as necessary.

  1. Creating, administering, or staffing other similar programs or projectsas would benefit Temple or its members.

  2. Other duties as assigned in keeping with the nature of this positionor utilizing the other skillsets a successful candidate may possess.

COMPENSATION: $40,000-$45,000dependent upon experience. Benefits include individual healthcare coverage, retirement contribution,paid vacation, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS:Requisite clearances as determined by the State of Pennsylvania and Temple Emanuel as well as any combination ofexperience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying. Recognizing the realities of small non-profits, the ideal candidate might also possess additional skillsbeneficial to the organization. No single skill listed below is required for this positionbut could tip the scalesin favor of a successful applicant:

●Graphic design, communication, or social media skills.

●Facility with technology and ability to assistwith technologyin other program areas.

●Ability to speak or decode Hebrew and teach in a 3-6 grade Hebrew School classroom.

SKILLS REQUIRED:Knowledge of:

●And comfort representing the mission, values and vision of Temple Emanuel, including an understanding of and appreciation for Judaism and the role of Reform Judaism;

●The synagogue world;

●Customer service practices and techniques;

●Modern office methods and procedures;and

●Basic office etiquette. Skills:

●Strong verbal, written communication, and presentationskills;

●Excellent skills in planning, organization and scheduling;

●Use of telephone, computer, and the emerging technology to facilitate virtual learning;

●Proficient in calendar, email, database, and educational software programs;and

●Ability to learn specialized programs and systems to ensure Temple remains on the cutting edge of available technology.Abilities:

●Ability to work as a team player with Senior Rabbi, ECDC Director, Executive Director,Torah Center Director,and lay leadership;

●Positive attitude and disposition;

●Understand the importance of being the “face” of Temple Emanuel to students, families, teachers, members, potential members, volunteers, and donors;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:

●Duties are primarily performed in both 1) an office environment while sitting at a desk and/or working at a computer; and 2) a classroom environment while standing before a group of people;

●Frequent focus on a computer screen is required;

●This position requires daily precise control of fingers and hand movements while operating computer; keyboard, telephone and standard office equipment;

●The position may require travel within the city and surrounding metro-area.

●Position frequently requires work outside of regular office hours;

●Moving throughout a building that is on different levels might be required; and●Lifting of boxes (upwards of 10lbs) may be required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position works under the supervision of the Senior Rabbi.
