POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

FLSA: Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Executive

REPORTS TO: President and CEO

What You’ll be Responsible For:

The COO is a senior professional leader reporting directly to the President & CEO. The COO will provide strong day to day leadership presence to a high performing professional team and be a strategic partner to the CEO and senior management team. The COO assists the CEO in fulfilling special assignments, develops and implements strategic operational initiatives, oversees campus governance, property and facility management, security, technology, and staff management.

What you’ll be doing (principal duties/responsibilities/tasks of the role, typical day):

· Oversee and manage the Operations Department

· Direct Supervision: Director of Campus Operations, Campus Security Director and Network Administrator

· Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of a strategic facilities plan (including CAM, Common Area Maintenance), ensuring that the campus and all campus facilities operate in an efficient and cost-effective manner

· Ensure that the financial resources are properly deployed to successfully manage the property and evaluate the results regularly and systematically

· Oversee structure and processes necessary to manage the campus’ current activities and its projected growth

· Staff the Campus Governance Committee

· Staff the Land and Building Task force to ensure appropriate legal structure, liability coverage and risk management

· Partner with security team on the development, maintenance, and execution of a strategic security protocol ensuring that all campus facilities are a safe and secure environment for employees, lay leaders, and the community at large

· Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of an information technology plan, including policies and procedures

· Build positive relationships with campus agency executives, lay leaders, donors, and other community professionals

· Oversee outside vendor relationships, ensuring performance and continuity of service.

· Oversee and manage property & casualty insurance policies and renewals and ensure adequate coverage, including risk management

· Oversee and manage tenant leases in the Katz building

· Supervise or direct special programs and projects as needed

· Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations

· Collaborate with peers on the senior management team

· Anticipate future needs, ensuring that resources are available to provide support for areas of growth

· Ensure that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct reports are defined and understood

· Motivate and lead all direct reports to maximize their performance

· Lead all direct reports in improving and overseeing the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and policies

· Direct the preparation of short term and long-term strategic planning based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives

· Act as a mentor for subordinate managers and employees, recognizing and coaching potential leaders within the organization

· Participate in Federation, community events, conferences, and national meetings as required

· Establish operating policies consistent with the CEO’s broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution

· Evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the CEO

Required Experience:

· Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field

· Collaborative hands-on executive leader with 7+ years of experience in business, government, or non-profit sector.

· Background in property/facilities management, real estate development, property management or similar related fields with strong financial acumen.

· Familiarity with the landscape of Jewish organizations and Jewish life in South Florida; or enthusiasm and ability to learn the landscape quickly

· Experience in navigating complex, multi-faceted organizations, and systems.

· Experience in developing and implementing strategic partnerships with vendors, campus agencies and lay committees.

· Sensitive to the diverse needs of staff and can provide clear guidance, expectations, require accountability and provide regular and consistent feedback.

· Systems focused and continuously strives to create and improve internal systems that help Federation achieve its vision.

· Data savvy with proven experience in making data-driven decisions and creating actionable metrics.

· An outstanding communicator who values the input of others and understands the importance of transparency in building credibility with staff and key stakeholders.

· A self-starter with highly developed interpersonal skills allowing them to relate well to staff, agency heads, lay leadership, donors, and the community at large.

· PC literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
