The Storyteller in Residence will:

Weave stories and storytelling throughout the school by

  • Collaborating with teachers to suggest and provide books to complement and strengthen Jewish and General Studies curriculum;
  • Telling stories in classrooms to deepen student learning and engagement with curriculum;
  • Sharing stories to bring joy throughout school;
  • Working with students to develop their own storytelling skills;
  • Integrating America’s 250th anniversary by encouraging students to tell their family stories.
  • Create a physical space for the written word by:
    • Investigating current trends and establishing best practices;
    • Visiting local schools to speak with library professionals across the country;
    • Developing the physical space – purchasing furniture and equipment to provide tantalizing book displays and spaces for groups and individuals;
    • Purchasing books;
    • Collaborating with CJDS Technology Specialist to design media integration.
  • Engage current and prospective families by:
    • Developing workshops and experiences that teach parents how to share stories with their children and show them how their children become more resilient;
    • Developing and teaching a new class for 2-3 year olds and their adults based on stories and storytelling, which will bring new families into the school and strengthen enrollment.
